When I was at Clifftop, I started notice a pattern of banjer pickin' that has a very similar syncopated pop to it like Round Peak, but minus the frequent slides (played on a fretted banjer). The notes had a quick decay and were punchy, frequent, and very melodic with little to no full strums.
Is anyone familiar with this? Is it a specific style? Is it native to WV? Am I retarded?

There are a lot of OT playing styles out there. A lot of very notey stuff and a lot of not so notey stuff. The commonest c'hammer styles today don't use many "full strums" and a lot use none at all. There is also a more homogenized c'hammer style which is common at festival jams. I won't attempt to define it. But then, I wouldn't attempt to define "Round Peak" either :-) Do a search for festival style.
