Now either the sound track and picture are not in sync or you can play notes and take fingers off of your banjo and it will still sound them. Very nice picking even if it looks like an illusion.

Carroll Best is probably smiling down on you. Got to see him before he was shot to death. Fantastic player...he had an understudy that was fantastic also. Anyway you are really smooth. Nice sound!! Great playing.

A fine, graceful performance. Nobody picks as smooth and clear as Jim Reed, nobody.

After a two week trip away, I'm working catch up down the Sound Off list...spotted a few JRs coming up, this is the first. Excellent as always :)

I will second that! I toast that! (its just coffee but I raise a toast to Jim all the same!)

Clean and clear and enjoyable Jim! Like a mountain stream up here in the North Cascades.
Best Wishes,
Tom

When I saw the video - and noticed the dirt on Jim's banjo head - I had an epiphany: it's the head. It's in the head, folks (nobody can play this smooth - it's gotta be the head he's using).

What kind of head is that? Is it skin? Whatever Jim's playing here, I want one. That buttery, smooth sound is just so sweet. Gimme more...

So smooth! I love the way your notes ring together like a hammered dulcimer. Phenomenal sound!

Yup. Also called Hog Trough Reel. I play it clawhammer style.

nicely done.

I hope nobody took my facetiousness seriously. I don't really think it's all about Jim's banjo head (it's really his 1925 Gibson Granada ballbearing tone ring - and a lot of playing magic :)
