Check out those available from Mr. Bill Miller: http://banjoseen.us/Store/index.html">banjoseen.us/Store/index.html

Heads, flesh hoops, and even pre-mounted hide heads!

I recommend the thin goatskins.

Tried one of Bills and it split when I got in the high 8's on the drum dial. Have an old one that is currently above 90.

Re: Bill Miller's heads.  Some of Bill's thin white calfskin hides are too thin for me. The thin ones are not suitable for significant tension ...and they tend to stretch.   I always request a thicker skin ...Bill gladly accommodates. Also, I think his vellum processed skins are stronger and more reliable.  They sound great too. I've used lots of them with very good results.

The best quality new hides I've found are from Stern Tanning.  Jeff Stern bought the equipment and business form the old United Tanning in Chicago (head supplier to Ludwig & others).  He still processes hides the original way. Each is hand-selected.  Then they are machine sanded for even thickness and very smooth top surface.   I think Jeff's main business is high-end percussion.  But he offers banjo skins too and will customize the thickness and surface texture to your preference.  Jeff does not offer pre-mounts ...so you will have to do-it-yourself.   sterntanning.com/percussion.htm
