Hey All!
Long time lurker, first time poster.
Recently completed my first build. It's a 5 string hubcap banjo with a one piece head, neck, and dowel (not really a dowel though.) Built as a gift for a good friend of mine to play with.
Found the hubcap on the side of the road and was inspired. Used a few pieces of 1x3 oak and glued together where needed. Grover tuners and bridge, D'Addario steel strings. Fretless, and has a fairly high action. You can play on the upper part of the neck no problem, but it works best with a slide.
Sound is pretty quiet. Louder than a uke, but quieter than an acoustic guitar. Not that loud banjo sound, but could sound cool with a Piezo pickup installed on the hubcap.
Only one photo for now. I shot this really quick before giving it to my friend.

It has a really cool look to it. I had to work in my living room since I lack a proper workshop and remember seeing it catch the light from the christmas tree.
Next time I get up north to see my buddy, I will take a few real photos and a short video of him playing it. Neither of us play the banjo, but he is a pretty accomplished Bass and Guitar player who "once owned a banjo." So maybe he'll pick it up quick.
Next project is a 4 string with a maple neck and a sweet flat sawn flamed maple fretboard and head. 24 fret, 26 inch scale with an old tambourine for a pot/head and similar neck and dowel as one piece construction. I cant wait to get it done. As of now, I only have the neck fretted and all the pieces glued up. I need to rough out the neck/dowel/head/heel, and get into some sanding work
