I would like to find out about my brother's B & D Senorita. It is serial # 5873 stamped on bottom of wood rod. Says made in USA. Has Gretsch tailpiece. I've posted several pics on my homepage. I would say it is in fair condition. Would like to know about it's mfg date, worth, and any other info pertinent to this model. Thanks for any help.

The Senorita is most likely manufactured in 1968. It´s a sort of floor sweep example - with elements from various earlier versions. Plus the rim seems very odd - it´s thicker than usual - do notice the countersinking of the bracket screws.

PS!
The banjo seems to have a Whyte Ladie style tone ring - if so, this conforms the late dating.

The tone ring is not a Whyte Laydie style tone ring. It is a Gibson style flat head ring. I would guess that it is not a Bacon/Gretsch pot, and that it is an after market pot and tone ring adapted to the Bacon resonator, neck and hardware.

Jay,
Yes - I think, that you´re right - of course - that would explain for the odd rim as well. At that time Gretsch used a thin multi layer rim. I´ll have to polish my eyeglasses.
Early 1968 or so Gretsch introduced a new model - very similar to the Senorita - but with only Bacon written at the peghead - and with the Whyte Ladie style tone ring as mentioned. I´ve so far only seen one example of this model.
The Made in USA stamp was introduced in 1965 - serial numbers after that time follows this system: Month-Year-Production# - so I´ve been told - the Senorita in question with the SN 5873 will then be #73 example from may 1968.

Thanks for the responses. If a decision is to sell the B & D Senorita what would it be worth?

An original Gretsch built Senorita of this vintage and in excellent condition will bring appr. 300 bucks, I guess.
However the addition of a casted tone ring and the thick rim will raise the value - or lower it - I can´t tell.
Many of these late Gretsch builds have a weak neck - often causing a severe bow - do check for this.
