Attended a workshop with Jason McKendree from the Josh Williams Band this afternoon. He gave major props to the Hatfield Buck Creek in his lap (and which he played in the band's very fine first set).

Lots of good stuff going on here this weekend, campers. Good main stage, good showcase stage, good workshops, tons of (because it's in a large, comfortable hotel) weather-protected jamming... no skeeters, neither. You should put this festival on your list.

Yeah, Arthur is probably making as a good a banjo as anyone, not to say the others aren't good.  A number of good ones certainly out there.  And Gibson seems to have lost their way.  It will be interesting to see what happens to the world of Gibson banjos - reincarnated by the company themselves, die on the vine, or the name gets sold in order for someone else to make "Gibson" banjos much like Deering bought the Vega name, Baldwin bought the Ode name, etc.  But with Huber, Bishline, Crafters of TN, Deering, Stelling, Prucha, and a few others, there is certainly no shortage of choices.  Then there is the used market as well.  Buyers with the BAS (banjo acquisition syndrome) can still get their fix easily.

I'm with you, Skip. Jason is a great picker and his Buck Creek is an excellent example of Arthur's craftsmanship.

No doubt about Arthur's banjo's being in the top of the class as for professional banjo's goes.  I spent the day with Arthur at the Salt Lick Bluegrass Festival in Shepardsville Kentucky today.  He has a wonderful, full sounding Buck Creek ready for the taking.  Someone is going to get a great banjo with that one.  It is a hoss.
