I just finished a full restoration of this banjo, and I am wondering it's approximate value. I have not been able to find a radio star online anywhere, at least not one that looks like this. I think it is 1927, and the serial # is 25010. Original Grover 2:1 pancakes, and a non-adjustable presto, also original. I love the lightning and futuristic shapes engraving on every conceivable surface! I shoul add that it is a 19 fret tenor, 11" rim, 5 piece neck.

Nice old banjo.

I'll link this to the Bacon and Day group.

Best wishes.

Lord a' mercy! From the early days of the magic of electric radio, for sure!

But that flange sure looks like a Ludwig!

I do for now have 12 examples of a B&D RADIO SPECIAL in my database - manufactured 1926-28. Yours is for now the last.

Thanks polle! Whoops! How did the title get to be 'radio star?'

Nice. I particularly like the graphics. Buck Rogers, man!
I vote that it's more like a 1928 because of the motif...but will defer to Mr. Flaunoe.
My friend recently got a Montana, and I was surprised how nice it played. I'm not a fan of that plastic stuff...but in this case....Wow, really nice.

Gordy,

From Wikipedia: The beginning of regular, commercially-licensed radio broadcasting in the United States in 1920, along with the concurrent development of sound and color film in that decade, ended the print monopoly of mass media and opened the doors to the immediate (and pervasive) electronic media. By 1928, the United States had three national radio networks.

Of the B&D RADIO SPECIAL examples in my DB the first was manufactured very late 1926 - and the last, the example above, in the spring 1928.
