I've had it with long necks!  I don't even play one any more.  In the 60's I was a Pete Seeger clone with my Vega long neck.  No more!!  I prefer to play my A scale banjo.  Much easier on my left arm.

These necks have been hanging on my wall for too long.  I would prefer to sell these as a lot to the highest bidder.  If that doesn't happen, I'll break them down to smaller lots and/or sell them individually.

The bottom three are gold Tone 800 necks.  Two right hand and one left hander.  I've covered the peg heads with ebony.  My plan was to inlay an MOP star in each.

The top four are from blanks from the Gibson factory in Kalamazoo after they shut down there.  So you know they are well seasoned.  The middle neck has a dowel stick installed and was part of a banjo that hasn't sold.  The top three are still in the rough blank condition.  They need some shaping and sanding. I did all the inlays on the Gibson (top four) necks.  All four Gibsons have truss rods.

Here are the peg heads.

I've got between about $1300 invested in this lot.  Plus a lot of labor, so make me an offer for the lot.

I too have stopped playing in the open position. These are fine necks. And I hope you sell them. I, too, have started playing shorter necks. I had a beautiful A scale (tuned to G) -- a tubaphone Mike Ramsey made for me. It was stolen. So now I just capo to the a- fret. I have done the same with guitars. I have a 1930s Stella and a brand new carbon fiber CA each with 22.75 inch scales. It's just a lot easier when you're old and arthritic.

I can't play a long neck since rotator cuff surgery and never was comfortable with them. I've gone to a parlor size guitar too and wish I'd done so years ago.

Hi Dan. That is a nice looking bunch of necks.. I have a couple of short scale banjos and the bigger ones seem to collect dust too.. I have a 24" scale and a 21" scale that I can't walk past without picking up for awhile..For me, they just seem so much easier to play

Dan: If they don't go as a batch I'd be interested in one or a couple pf the Gibson necks. I have a wild hair to try a long neck with a 12" pot. In my dreams it makes the open A and E even richer!

Yes, you and three other guys.

Is it just because it has a dowel stick or because it's finished or what?

I could put dowel sticks in the other Gibson blanks.  Would you want one of them?

i'd rather be doing guitars , as i duck and run for cover ...

but in all honestly it would be for my wife ...

she has an old banjo , really bad neck .

and would like to have a long neck banjo :)

I am interested in the 2 right handed necks with the rounder style peg heads and maybe the one without a fretboard and the flower pot inlay... i've got a couple of pots waiting for a long neck.....send me an email with a price.Thanks Gary

Here we go!   A new chapter.  I got an offer for three of the long necks and they are sold.  So the remaining four are for sale as a group or individually.

I had 5 requests for a price on the one that's finished and with the dowel stick.  The blue tape is holding the 5th string pip in the hole.  

The dowel stick is long enough for a 12 inch rim.  I experimented with a partial frailing scoop on it.  I relieved the edge of the finger board under the 5th string only.  There's a break in the binding at the start of the scoop.  Still needs a little smoothing to be done on the scoop.

It's ready to be installed and played.  I'm asking $350 for this neck.

The remaining three - I want $150 for the left handed Gold Tone neck.

$135 for the bottom neck with no fingerboard and no peg head inlay.  It has a truss rod installed.  It needs some final shaping and sanding.  I have an unslotted ebony bass finger board blank that I will include for $20.

I want $175 for the top neck wth the Gibsonish peg head and fingerboard inlays.  The inlays still need a little fill around them with black super glue or ebony dust and glue.  The back of the neck needs some shaping and sanding.

All these prices include shipping to the lower 48.  Anyplace else, we can discuss the cost of shipping.
