The Little Yellow Book, as it is commonly known contains about 28 classic Minstrel / Stroke / Early tunes. Many clawhammer guys may know these tunes. I have recorded the entire book. Here are some excerpts. These tunes are not difficult, and certainly stay in a single style....even though it changes things like time signatures and feels. You can sample all of them (or even buy them for a quarter each) at

What do you think of this stuff? It is right off the page from mid 19th Century, but can't you hear the DNA of our more modern music here?

Thank you, Mr. Twiss. Another of your youtube postings inspired me to try to learn The Lion/John Wild's Reel (1887 version)... Only frustration so far (it is harder than it looks).

Thanks! If anybody has a thought of trying this style, either on your current banjo, or fretless Minstrel, you give it a go. This material is simple...and challenging.
