According to Beegee the format is YDDDYPPP, so the year would be 1980 ("8" 214 "0" 045)

Great looking banjo. I had two of them in the early 1980's. I originally ordered a Hearts and Flowers inlay. Somehow they got mixed up and sent me a Wreath pattern. Well they just made me another one and told me to play the Wreath until mine came. A couple months past and UPS showed up at my door with the Hearts and Flowers banjo straight from the factory. I remember how good that new banjo smelled when I opened it. I then sent them the Wreath back. Oh yeah, it had that cool Cherry sunburst on it. Here's a picture of me with it back when I used to play at The Renfro Valley Barn Dance. I often wondered who got it when I traded and bought a RB-3 reissue. It was a good sounding instrument.

I thought about that,but didn't check specifically. That makes sense, because the 2nd would have been a Saturday, so it was likely made on Friday.

Here's my 1980 H&F, same great stain. 83050057. (1980, October 31, a Friday.). Bought in 1990 at the Fretmill in Roanoke and still love it.
