I put some new strings on my cello banjo. Here's one I wrote sometime back when I played it clawhammer. If you want to get inside the low-frequency timbres this baby puts out, listen through a good system or phones. Recorded with a Rode NTK microphone.

Thanks. Here's the first version I recorded 6 years ago.

I always listen with headphones.
I thought I would like the finger picked version more, but the CH version is at least as good I think. Nice!

Outstanding, Paul. I can imagine how terrific it would sound if listened to as you suggest. I just listened through the speakers on an old iPhone and it was beautiful.

That's a very nice piece. Those low notes sound great. I especially like the middle of the cello banjo register on this one - has a solemnity to it.

tasrev - aha, a fellow cello banjo man! "Solemnity," that's a dignified description. Thanks.
Laurence and Rick, your responses are much appreciated.
Here's another clawhammer take, on the Bob Carlin 12" tuned cFCFG (midway between cello banjo and standard) with silverwound nylon strings.

This is really beautiful. Thanks for posting. I agree, the clawhammer is just as beautiful as the first although I wouldn't have expected that. Just magnificent. I may have to start saving up to get me one of those. Thanks.

Paul thanks as always a nice journey. Or in this case a return "home".

Thanks Paul...beautiful tune and tones. Not really 'Low and Lonesome'...maybe 'Low and Longing'?

Very insightful, Nick.
