The lowest serial number I see on Polle's site for a Groton-made Bacon Professional is 5014.  I just purchased one with serial number 5010.  I should have it in a few days.

Aha - the circular sound holes - I´ve never myself seen these before - from Carl Barons database it seems, that these were used only during the first year in Groton - however not on all IR examples built.

I´m looking forward for more pics.

All the three circle Bacon Professionals in my database are between serial numbers 5014 and 5393, except for 8502 an item for which I don't have any pictures (meaning that what's in the database is from one of Bob Carlin's original data sheets).

Thanks Polle and Carl.  I had never heard of the circle holes before hearing about this banjo, so I was intrigued. 

I might get it as early as tomorrow.  The down side is that the peghead is broken off.  So it's a bit of a project, but well worth doing the repair.

Gents - off-topic - but only two days ago I got a mail from a guy - asking me about the possibility of finding a high grade Pro with a 26" scale - his favorite scale.

I´ve looked all over my sources - inclusive of Carl Barons database - Carl does have only one documented example - a Grand Concert SN 2801.

Do any of you recall having seen a similar or even higher grade "short-scale" Pro somewhere?

Carl - I missed the SN 8502 when looking for examples with the circular holes in your DB - doesn´t this seem somewhat out-of-time? Maybe a custom order?

Without pictures, I can't even verify the Excel entry. This goes back to about 1980 when Bob Carlin first started handing out the sheets for owners to fill out. The sheets went to Tim Brown who then set up the original database. My Google search for 8502 yielded nothing. There's a very remote possiblity that Tim Brown might have the information on who the owner is. For the banjos that I've added to the database, I've not kept track of the owners.

Well, I finally took possession of the banjo yesterday, sn 5010.  It's in remarkably nice, original condition except that the peghead is broken off.  It'll be repaired, cleaned and set up shortly.  I uploaded a few photos.

I´ve saved the pics in my archive and included the banjo in my DB´s.

BTW - I take that it´s a regular banjo (RB) - the pics don´t tell - if not please let me know. At that time Bacon made also Pro tenors and mandobanjos.
