this looks like a good kit..where's the banjo one with a 100 lb bronze ingot and a log?

Laugh all you want... BUT!

The first stringed instrument I made (NOT counting rubber bands around a facial tissue box) was inspired by finding a straight piece of TREE LIMB that somebody had stripped the bark from, and let it dry out in our basement for quite a while.

It was already sawed (sawn??) lengthwise, to be a half round.

So I took some scrap wall paneling, made a sort of balalaika body, copied the fret spacing from my sister's baritone uke, and by gosh, the dang thing WORKED.

Three strings, but that's enough to form a chord!
