John Wright's very kindly allowed us to put copies of his 1980s "5-String Stanley Style" booklet on-line.

There were two editions of the booklet published in 1984 and 1988, each with a (mostly) different selection of tabs, but it was the introductory pages where John goes into the 'nuts & bolts' of Ralph Stanley's picking that really did it for me...

You can also still get copies of the 2nd editon from Jack Hatfield  too.

I didn't realize that there were 2 editions. 

I've never seen the tabs from the first edition until just now!

The tab from the first edition seems easier to (physically) "read" than the tabs in the second edition

Nice, but I guess it does not pay for Jack Hatfield to stock  up on hard to find items.

Thanks Ken - It's a fair point - I've modified the page to plug Jack Hatfield's remaining stock a bit more (it was linked but not prominently).

I spent a couple of years searching on the internet / ebay / amazon etc before I found Jack still had some copies, so I'm hoping that he'll actually sell more of them as a result of the webpage... and at $7 I think you'd have to be real tight not to get one.

I have to admit I am a bit uneasy though about having the 2nd editon up there - even if it has a different cover.

Thanks very much, Buzzbomb, that's great stuff. 

I didn't know there was a different edition, either. I guess it explains why some of the "Ralph's Greatest Hits" songs you would have expected to see, like Pretty Polly, CMB, Little Maggie, Think of What You've Done, Shout Little Lulie-- weren't in the second edition. 

BTW, I just learned from your site that Ralph used a flathead on the "Live in Japan" album--my mind is officially blown.
