Picked up on this from a piece on the Cybergrass website... The Virginia Association of Museums are asking people to help pick two items from Virginia's "Top 10 Endangered Artifacts" which will have a public voted grant used to help restore them...
One of the artifacts is a smashed WCYB Stanley Brothers acetate of a rare radio performance from the late '40s.
Voting ends on 24th Jan with the results announced on the 6th Feb... and there's some stiff competition.

Voted to restore. A very important piece of Bluegrass history.

I feel sorry for the old copper moonshine still with only 3 votes, that would have been next on my list

Thanks Ivor. Just voted. Looks like you can vote each day. Hope we all support this.

Wow, just checked and it’s ahead at 203 votes. The closest one behind it has 130 votes. Maybe we can keep it up there.

A Facebook discussion of this revealed that one can laser scan old phonograph discs to digitally capture the contents, without having to actually make the disc playable again with a needle.

whenever I click on the link, I can't find an option for voting. maybe it's because I'm using the extremely up to date Windows 7...
conic - Posted - 01/17/2018: 09:26:34
just under the description for each item there should be a small white rectangle to add your email address and under that there should be a pastel green rectangle with "vote " written on it.
Mooooo - Posted - 01/17/2018: 09:56:45
I can't see any items at all, just a light blue block of color where I assume those Items and pastel green rectangles are...Here's what I see:
conic - Posted - 01/18/2018: 08:22:59
this needs lots more votes as its now at 1095 votes but there is another item at 1236 Votes
vfhamilton - Posted - 01/18/2018: 12:54:11
Use each email address that you have access to and cast a vote with each one. I’ve been voting twice a day. We need to keep this up.

I don't think it's been mentioned on The Mandolin Cafe? Could somebody post a message about it there?
mandolincafe.com/forum/forumdi...-Variants
(It should after all feature Pee Wee Lambert on mandolin)

Yeah but it’s a shame he didn’t put a link in the article so people could go easily vote....

Good point Kevin. I did not notice that. I bet if you send the LInke to John he might put it in.

And with the volume of material they publish, it's already gone from the main page - just one Viewer Comment visible.

It's been neck and neck for awhile, but the boat now seems to be pulling ahead... Considering the number of bluegrass enthusiasts I'm surprised more people haven't voted for it.
3 Days to go... so please keep voting!
conic - Posted - 01/21/2018: 08:36:06
You can make loads of alias email addresses and vote with each one
Mooooo - Posted - 01/21/2018: 08:52:12
I can't see the voting but in the article in Bluegrass Today it is noted that the top two get funding to restore them. 1st place gets $5000 and 2nd place gets $4000. So, just make sure it doesn't come in 3rd.

According to this article the disc contains nine songs, including traditional standards like “Lee Highway Blues,” “The Prisoner’s Song” and “Are You Waiting Just for Me?”
From Greylock to Bean Blossom - Posted - 01/23/2018: 11:51:24
We are about 100 votes behind and need to catch up.
Buzzbomb - Posted - 01/25/2018: 00:48:02
Yippee - it won!! Much to my surprise... it was trailing when I went to bed by 160 or so votes but there must have been a last minute spurt as by the time voting finished (5am local time here in the UK) it had got 5,900 votes beating the merchant ship (which got 5,520 votes)...
Can't wait to hear it!![]()
vfhamilton - Posted - 01/25/2018: 06:34:46
I am happy that it won. I was worried too before I went to bed last night. Lots of credit to Ivor for letting us know about it in the first place.
