My wife and I will be travelling to and the UK soon, outbound on May 8 and inbound June 12. I won’t be taking an instrument with me as I promised her we’ll travel light, but I would be interested in learning from our UK members if there are any jams or Irish sessions or the like we could attend, just to listen (of course, if anybody has a left-handed anything they would be willing to lend, I might be tempted to join in). We’ll be in London, York, Glasgow, Belfast, Shrewsbury, Plymouth, and London again, staying several days in each.

Hope you have a great trip, someone should be able to let you know about any sessions where you are staying, I live about 30 miles from Plymouth. If I here of anything going on I will let you know.

Sounds like you have a wonderful trip planned.

If you're heading down to Plymouth from London or the North that'll bring you through Somerset and here in the West Country we're fortunate to have probably the highest number of regular OT sessions within a relatively small area of any region in the country. There are bluegrass sessions round here too. And of course, an even higher number of Irish and other indigenous sessions.

You're welcome to PM me for details of when and where these sessions occur within your trip dates. It would be a pleasure to help link you up with some music while you're over here. If you can make it to any of the sessions I'm at then I can lend you a decent banjo. If you need somewhere to stay before or after a session we have a spare room and our house is licensed for multiple banjo use. smiley

There are also sessions in London and I'm sure folks who live there will give you info on those.

I'm following this discussion with great interest as I'll be in London in late September on business with about four days to travel before meeting my wife in Dublin for 10 days of Ireland travel, then back to teach in Chichester with a bit of extra time to explore. I'll definitely be traveling with banjo and prowling for OT sessions.
