It's very similar to a Leonard Glenn banjo from Sugar Grove NC. Whether it is, is anybody's guess.

It only vaguely resembles the Watauga County (Hicks-Proffitt-Glenn) banjers. Even in the 1970s there were a number of people making mostly one-off versions. This is likely one someone brought to a concert. The best bet is tracking down the photographer.

IIRC, One of the Foxfire books showed how to make one. After that was published, who knows HOW many back-to-the-land counterculture types tried their hands at it....
