Does anyone use the Renaissance was for skin heads? If so, how is it applied? I have some on the way but never used it before.

I started using Renaisaance wax as a protectant for hide heads a few years ago - on the recommendation of Jason Romero.
It is a very light, clear wax. I apply it to the top and buff with a clean cotton cloth.
BTW - It is GREAT for wood and metal too. I use it now all the time.

Renaissance Wax was developed by the conservators at the British Museum for care of armor and other metals. It is some of the purest wax available and I use it a lot in my museum work. A little goes a long way. I haven't used on hide heads, but only because I live in a fairly stable climate and don't have a need for it. It should be wonderful for hide, especially if John recommends it, as well as for wood and metal. It's always the last thing I use before final reassembly when I restore a banjo.

I'm a fan. I don't use it for heads though. I will apply a very light amount to a banjo that I pulled apart and cleaned up. I'm not a habitual user. I will apply periodically to the back of the neck on banjos I play often. I think it might reduce wear on the finish but that could be all in my head.
