I thought the group would appreciate this Dobson. It looks like it could be a real beauty with just a little bit of work. Not my listing.

Well! Yup, it's cool.
I think they're off by an order of magnitude though. $800 might be a better starting point...unless you're a banjo-playing Elk.

Agreed. I paid $500 for mine about 5 years ago. Admittedly not a Presentation grade, but I just don’t see this one going for that much.

Interesting banjo. Nice touch that it is a presentation banjo. Agreed with all above, starting bid price is multiple magnitude over what it is worth. Highest I have ever seen one of these go for in near perfect condition was a hair over 2,000. Doubtful if an Elks tie in adds any value.
All the same, nice to see another banjo come out to the open.

that is cool! the elks club was less than two years then! theres some history here. they're not going to that price for it, likely unless they can find an elks and banjo collector billionaire without financial sense.

IDK, I'm thinking it is worth 3 to 4 times the $8k starting price. I mean, it is a zith-- I mean, patent closed back banjo.

I agree with Marc. The decimal point should be placed one digit to the left, considering all the work it needs .
Interesting banjo however, I've seen original decalomania on several other early Dobsons and a Teed that Musurgia sold some years ago to a prominent midwest collector if memory serves.

There is such a fascination w/ dating, among musicians & collectors that it is extraordinary to see an instrument that is so clearly engraved in history. (It seems to be even more aesthetically powerful than even a serial number).
(My hometown had an Elks Club w/ a large life-size metal elk out front. It was made w/ spikes all over the back so kids couldn't climb on it. )

It seems that "presentation" banjos and "presentation grade" banjos are not necessarily the same thing....

yes this one is truly a presentation piece as it retains the history behind it,where and why it was presented. Its pretty cool though i think a nit overpriced.
