I've been pretty sick here lately and look who came to cheer me up! He signed the resonator on my new RK76.

That’s awesome!!! Nothing like a visit for the health.

Nice to know that a great artist is also a fine human being.

My salute to your guest and my prayers for your own well being.

Hope your health gets better quickly.

And I'm moving this to other banjo related. While it's good news, it doesn't belong in the Bluegrass playing forum.

Does that Gary Ridge feller like the Road Hog?

IDK, I think he's banned from the BHO, are you sure it's okay to post his picture? I'm just sayin'.  wink

This is the first time that I have met Greg Rich. He may have been banned from the BHO, i don't know and I really don't care. I've had a section of each one of my lungs removed and I will more than likely be dead before I learn how to play this banjo. For someone like Greg Rich to come and visit me, a "nobody", speaks volumes in my book. There isn't one thing that I can do for him, so he really had no motive to come and visit me. I don't know how he found out that I was sick and in real bad health, but he did find out. I consider myself to be in GREAT company just by having my picture taken with him. I don't know how much longer I have left here on earth, but I will remember this day for the rest of my life and no one can take that from me. I feel sorry for the haters in this world, and I have received a few emails that have made fun of me. All I can say is that I will be praying for you and I hope you get the hate out of your heart. Life is just too short to have that much hate! As soon as I can afford to get myself a leather cradle strap and a metronome, I will be practicing as much as my health will allow.

What type of strap are you using? I have to play from a sitting position and most of the time, it is sitting in a wheelchair. I am so afraid that I might drop this banjo so I am saving up to get a strap. I think I want a cradle strap.

I stand up quite a bit,,, I just have a regular 1 1/2 inch wide leather strap.  A cradle strap sounds good for your situation.

I actually didn't hate Greg Rich, and I was not happy about it when he was kicked out.  Greg brought a lot of history, expertise, and personality to the BHO, and it is not as much fun since he has been gone.  He did like to mix it up with people, and he would occasionally get a little "off-color" with someone he was interacting with, if things got a little heated, which they often did.  That's what finally got him booted, if my memory serves me right.   I confess I was trolling, hoping to generate some discussion about Greg, and I realize now that it was inappropriate in your thread, after your courageous description of your health issues.  I lost my wife, the love of my life, to cancer thirty years ago, and I have seen the long struggle with death up close.  Please accept my apology, and my sincere wish that a miracle comes into your life.  Sometimes they do.

I am new here, getting info to setup my budget banjos and tips on playing. After reading this tread I feel compelled to say "Gary Watkins - I wish you the best, and an excellent reply. Don... you did good. The world would be a better place if everyone could be as honest.

Mr. Watkins,

Glad you got to meet and spend some time with Mr. Rich.

As for the "haters", they don't deserve any of your time, or energy.

Save that up for some banjo picking.

He's still here...18 years and counting.

Unfortunately, a lot of the old-timers who were good contributors are gone.

And this, my friends is called customer service.

We don't just leave the earth and go to heaven, a little bit of a journey is involved. Thus if you don't get to enjoy the banjo as much as you like here in this edition, we assure you, it's a far, far better banjo you go to play, get ready to fly. Built by elves. We need your strength.

You guys look good. Healing takes time.
