Hey guys I'm a 5string banjo player but I have a cool old Slingerland maybell tenor banjo I'm fixing to set up its a really nice banjo it's one of the ones with a nice donut tonering and birdseye maple resonator. I recently had to swap the original rogers hide head that was on it to my slingerland 5string so now I'm in need of a new head for my tenor.
What type of head, and tailpiece do you think would sound the best on my slingerland maybell banjo? Also any preference for bridges? The bridge I had on it was a grover 2 foot with ebony top and it seemed to sound pretty good on it with the skin head. I'm also trying to decide this time between stringing it up GDAE or CGDA.
Do certain head and bridge combos seem to work better with one tuning over the other? Just wanting to get some ideas from you tenor banjo players.

Depends where you are heading musically – Irish? Jazz? Whatever. I have found that the key of D is the best key for my singing pitch for most songs. When I had a tenor I took the CGDA strings and tuned the lower two strings to end up with DADA. Being neither major or minor, it worked well for both modes. It becomes something like a dulcimer, tuned to itself and you get a lot of ringing harmony notes. Never singing and mostly instrumental I'd go for GDAE. Backing other people for singing at open jams CGDA. banjered
