I see that the thread on Gariepy banjos has been archived. Having just acquired one I thought it would be nice to see if there is any interest in a revival of the topic. After a little digging I found a nice profile of Art Gariepy in the 2/3/63 edition of The Long Beach Independent included here (I hope!)

Bob Flesher use to have his version of of the Gariepy banjo legacy on his website.
My favorite banjo is a Gariepy Van Eps model, one of what I believe were only three made. And I know of one other that was paid for but Gariepy never made it (evidently this was a fairly common story at the end of his run).

Thanks for posting! I recently acquired a Gariepy too -- perfect timing!

I knew his business was based in Long Beach, CA, but never knew he got his start in Holyoke and Springfield, MA. I'm in West Springfield, which means I border both towns.

A couple of years ago I was the winning bidder on shopgoodwill for a plectrum banjo. When it arrived it turned out to be a Gariepy. It cleaned up well and is a welcome addition to my menagerie of musical instruments.
