I do strongly recommend a metronome though.
I find that a dedicated unit (not a phone app) is best for me. For years I used a mechanical metronome and I still sometimes do for the general pleasant experience.
Now I mostly use this.

Yeah I have a feeling Douglas Back is going to tell me the same thing. I'm starting lessons with him again. I've made excuses for long enough. It's about time I can play strictly rather than with tons of rubato. I just thought I would interpret Farland with romantic tendencies rather than traditional classic banjo tendencies.
