I have a Deering Jens Kruger banjo that was special ordered by the original owner. Does anyone know how to tell if it has the Kruger tone ring or the 06 tone ring?

From the Deering web site, regarding the Jens Kruger model:
NOTE: The Reutschi | Kruger tone ring on this model, due to the delicate nature of its casting, can not be plated or engraved. It will be an unplated bronze.
So if your tone ring is plated nickel or gold or is engraved, then according to Deering it is the 06 tone ring. Plain bronze would be the Reutschi, again according to Deering.
Is the web site perfect? I don't know.

Alex has the quick and correct answer to your question. However, I have to say, after hearing the Krueger brothers play in December, you could hear the difference. The Reutschi ring has a very clear tone. To my ear, any overtones were just a sustain of the same note.

The Reutschi is VERY clearly marked on the face of the ring and the skirt

I’m on the road, but will check when I get home. Thanks to all!

Also, I own an engraved Reutschi so they have done that!

Just got home and looked. It is indeed bronze, is engraved and plainly says Reutschi. Thanks everyone for the help!

Good that the answer was found. I had interpreted the original question as there were no identifying marks on the tone ring.
I wonder how Deering gets the name on the ring after machining, since they say the ring cannot be "engraved."

I'd think it says Rüetschi...
