Well, I went and did it! Today I bought a Gold Tone OB-250LW. It's new, with a hard case. Supposed to come set up. Free shipping from Tennessee. Cost: $1,160 USD (including tax).
I'm 71 now and re-entering the banjo world after a 10 year absence. I figured I'd spare myself the extra 3-4 pounds of a brass tone ring.
What do you think? A good choice?

I’ve never played that particular model, but I think purchasing a banjo and getting back into after a hiatus is an excellent choice.

Gold Tone makes some nice banjos. Health issues have led me to a lighter weight banjo, and if that model had been available when I made the switch I would have given it serious consideration. Enjoy playing it.

Excellent choice, both in deciding to play and with the OB-250LW. I love the neck on those 250s
