A customer brought me this banjo for repair. Three issues:
- Too much relief. The neck appears to have a Stewart-McDonald 'Hot-Rod' two-way TR. The TR will not straighten the neck, not even with clamping to assist. Can anyone confirm if indeed Gibson used ST-M rods during that time?
-The binding on the bass side of the neck has been repeatedly damaged by installation of a side-mount fifth string capo. It should be replaced. It is w/b/w, with a wide white/narrow black/narrow white configuration. Is this binding available for sale, or must I make it up to match?
-I can't see any serial number. I have looked on the back of the peghead, and the inside of the rim. There is a paper Gibson label, but it only shows the model(Earl Scruggs) and the date of manufacture(10-10-97). Should there be a serial number? (Correction: I found the SN:3326).
