I used to use Larry Brown, but as you all probably know, he sadly passed a number of years ago. Can anyone recommend a luthier in the LA area that you trust?

I've used both Stringed Instrument Service and the Claremont Folk Music Center but not for big repairs.  Was happy with both services (although SIS is on the pricey side).
