Welcome newbies. This is the place for us all to sit around and bemoan our abject lack of banjo playing skills.

Or perhaps offer each other support and encouragement as we begin our musical journey.

I sincerely hope to leave this group quickly and in the capable hands of a host of other people just starting to learn this wonderful instrument.

Just me here at the moment though. I'll be in the corner, waiting. And practising.

If anyone else does show up, then mine's a large gin & tonic please.

	Banjonny says: 1/28/2011 8:20:56 AM Ive tried the method of moving on to other songs and trying to work through them the only thing that leaves me is knowing piece of a couple of songs and not a whole song. Anyone else have this problem?
	Wallster says: 1/28/2011 10:24:04 AM Still very early days for me. Unfortunately as I look away from my right hand it goes off and does something I don't want it to while I'm not looking. I was lucky enough to sit in on a workshop held by Greg Cahill last week & it taught me that what I really need to do next is to learn some more chords and scales before I try to fit riffs together. Hopefully that'll help me get familiar with the fretboard and keep my right hand under control a bit. It's going to be a loooong walk to Cripple Creek from Cambridge UK, I think.

I am just in the process of buying a banjo through another BHO member and hopefully that will be in the mail before too long. My other big hurdle to jump is that I have to have surgery on my right wrist on monday which will probably put me out of action for a further 6 weeks. So how's that for frustrating, Ill have my new banjo sitting there dying to be played but will be trussed up in plaster of Paris and no doubt feeling v.ery sorry for myself! Arghhhhhh!
	pstroud1 says: 1/29/2011 3:35:25 PM I'm not new at the banjo. I a player of a lot of tunes but a master of none. I sure don't want to discourage anyone but I've been playing most always alone on the banjo. I have stumbled through several tunes at a local acoustic jam that plays more country than bluegrass. I always end up on the guitar and haven't even been out to pick that in a long time. I still at the bottom only because of my own laziness. I know I can pick it up just don't practice enough regularly. I play and pick things up by ear and may try that group I saw but just wanted be truthful with myself about where I actually am on the banjo. Paul
lg9455 says: 1/29/2011 5:24:51 PM Sutty70 You can use a strap on the banjo and make cords with your left. Practice changing from C to D7 and back (of course G is all open) and mabe through in another progression now and again. All isn't lost that way.
