Went to a Bluegrass jam last night

From Larry121047 on 2/3/2012 11:18:12 AM

I went to my first Bluegrass Jam last night and I will go again. I did not take my Banjo as I am a coward at this point. I think next time I will take it and just sit on the out side of the big circle that they set in and kind of follow along. No way am I ready to do a break. Shoot, half the songs, I had never heard before.

Larry,
Good for you! I wish there were some jams I could go to. I live in Alabama and you would think there is a jam on every street corner here, but in fact it is hard to find Bluegrass except an occational band playing and they are being paid so they don't want jammers.

Checkout SEBA's site. They have jams posted in AL. My hubby and I drive all over GA and into AL to jams.

so Larry, have you been back? I've done two very small, friendly and patient jams so far, and am getting up the nerve to take my banjo to a larger one I've visited. I found it was pretty easy to just play along quietly in the background. Also have found it helpful to get some classic Earl Scruggs cd's so I could familiarize myself with more of the standards.

I am still attending it every 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month and I am playing along. I have learned so much in the last month just jamming. the one I attend has on the average 15 people in it so I can really blend in the background with no trouble. I have found the more people there the more comfortable I am. I don't stick out so much in a large group.
