beginners songs wanted

I was wondering what songs other beginners started out with.

Perhaps they were short or did you guys just jump into long songs.

Did they have the fingering marked?

I could sure use some examples perhaps even tabs?

	thisoldman says: 8/22/2012 9:10:55 AM Depends on what style you want to play. For clawhammer, Mike Iverson's site has a buch of "easy"clawhammer songs. I have been working on Cripple Creek (after all, this site is for those who haven't mastered this tune) and am improving daily. Also trying out the 2-finger style and Sean Barth's site has tabs with the fingering shown (basically thumb, index and pinches). You will find Jan Olov's tabs (thumb-lead style) on the BHO and those TEF files have fingerings. Good luck.
	eastside_eddie says: 8/22/2012 1:17:45 PM I've been working w/ Wayne Erbsen's Banjo For Ignaramuses book & Dan Levensons DVD. Wayne's book is really good all the songs are the basic medleys and then you can take it from there. Dan's DVD goes through the basics and you work w/ the song Spotted Pony.

	Deb D says: 8/28/2012 8:26:25 PM I have been working through Janet Davis' "You Can Teach Yourself Banjo". It was the only banjo book my local music store carried! I like that she includes banjo "standards" early on, such as Cripple Creek, Blackberry Blossom, Cumberland Gap, Wildwood Flower. Even though the arrangements are very basic, I feel like I'm actually playing the banjo and getting somewhere. The accompanying cd and dvd are also helpful. Good luck! I had initially hoped I would be playing CC within a year, but actually was playing it within 3 months! (though not as fast as Janet plays it!)
