Ok, I'm an "old guy" 63 young, I have been trying since 1974 on and off...mostly off. Now I'm retired, I have 3 banjos and cannot play..... Since this is a beginning group... where do I simply begin... I have books, picks, strings, etc I need to commit myself..... what is the best way to learn 3 finger picking?

When I sit down and try to begin, I'm not sure that what I'm doing is good or bad.

Starting today, I'm going to set aside for myself 30min each day on my banjo...my goal is by summer 2013 I can play at least 1 song.

So, all of you far wiser than myself what should I do first.

	Deb D says: 8/29/2012 8:36:28 PM If you do in fact practice 30 minutes each day, I'msure you will be able to play at least one song in a month or two! Find a teacher, or find a good beginning banjo book. I'm using the Janet Davis book, DVD, and CD, but there are many out there to choose from. I also am a "member" at banjoteacher.com, and find Ross Nickerson's videos to be very helpful. I've picked up lots of tips on effective practicing on this site, and visit here often for inspiration! You Tube is a great resource, as well. I've met an amazing banjo player at a local jam, and although he doesn't teach, he does give me tips and answer questions. Don't give up this time - you ain't gettin' any younger!
