So it's not as easy going from the guitar to a five string banjo as I thought it would be. I've been playing the guitar for about 24 years now, and thought that it would be an easy transition. I already finger pick the guitar, but there's just something different about a banjo. I'm having a hard time keeping the rolls in time. Any ideas or drills on how to improve my timing? Or is it just a matter of practice/repetition?

rgoad says: 6/19/2013 4:15:02 AM Play the banjo, don't practice. Find cool sounds then use some of the techniques you've been taught to make the sounds. You will slip right in to it. It is learning a language.

Let me say that I find banjo fun, but harder than chinese arithmetic. rquod: you are brilliant. I HAVE been practicing and practicing, and only seem to improve when I get a chance to play in a group. (I shoulda known!)
	Jonny R says: 7/8/2013 6:51:06 AM I can relate to what you're saying. Those roll patterns are different than the way I pick a guitar. It seems to be a timing hurdle fitting them into a 4 beat measure and sometimes I have to fudge a little. I find it helps a lot to play along with others or even play along with a recording.
