I've been playing around 4-5 months, and I just came to realize that I've been using my pinky finger to hold down a string where I now see that people would normally use their ring finger. I've learned quite a few songs this way and it's automatic and just felt right.
I'm a small woman with small hands, so I guess I felt using my pinky was the only way to reach that far when I need to. (like when I need to reach the 7th and 9th fret at the same time - it's really REALLY a challenge using index and ring, so I use index and pinky)
So now I'm wondering if I should just keep doing what I'm doing, as long as it sounds right it's okay, or is this one of those bad habits I should break now? Should I go back and try to reteach myself to reach with my ring finger, or will it matter?
