Well I learned a valuable lesson over the weekend. When you change the strings on your banjo do it one at time. I took all the strings off, then had to reset the bridge,then retune the new strings it took me almost two hours to get things right again.

It did sound better though, Mabe there is somthing to it.

	Texasbanjo says: 2/7/2011 10:42:56 AM If you HAVE to take all strings off for any reason, before you do, take a pencil and mark where the bridge sets-- that way you won't have the problem of getting the bridge back in the correct place. Now I tell you, huh? Well, better late than never. Seriously, one string at a time. I usually start of with the 1st string, change it and "sort of" tune it, then 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th, "sort of" tuning each one as I go. Then I get serious and tune each string. I usually lift up on each string to "stretch" it. I don't yank on it, just lift up gently but firmly. This helps stretch the string so you won't have to return each string for a week until the strings settle in. I've been playing for years and I still hate to change strings. But I do it and it's really easy.

P.S. the distance from the nut to the 12th fret being equal to distance from 12th to bridge worked. I did have to make a slight adjustment but overall it worked very well.
	ady says: 2/7/2011 12:55:17 PM I've done that before, and set the bridge testing the tuning with an electric tuner. sounded better after as it must of slipped at some point
	dirtygeorge says: 2/10/2011 10:57:45 AM I need to change My strings as I bought My banjo and then let it set for 4 or 5 years before I finally got the never to try an learn to play it. One of the first things I learned however was to mark where the bridge goes with a pencil. As for the strings I can see that they are kinda rusty from just sittin around the house for so long an not being played. One day they will get changed.
