Another beginner and older too.

Bought my first banjo May 2013 and now on the second one.  It did not improve playing really but acts as a good motivator.  Teacher has been very helpful and encouraging.  Learning by tab and working on a number of different tunes, even starting to get them into memory which at my age is not the easiest thing.  No real idea where this is taking me but it stimulates the brain and gives the fingers a workout plus every practice renews the spirit.

Richard,
Hang in there. I am near 70 , and started about 2 years ago. I am going nowhere , fast, but enjoying the trip.
It does keep the brain active , and pushes the arthritis back a bit.
I have no teacher, as the only one in this area has a crapitude. (overheard him talking with some people, and he said he doesn't care if students even show up, as long as he gets theit money.)
But , tapes and tabs online are a big help. I Probably have a lot opf bad habits, but so what , I ain't headed for Nashville and I have a lot of fun.
Hang in and give it what fer.

Thanks for comments, there are real benefits to keeping active for sure. Sorry about the teacher drought.

Welcome. I have only been picking 10 months myself but love it. So enjoy it, and ask any questions you have.

I will have 10 months under my banjo in about 3 months and hope things start to come together better. So far still banging around with the tunes I'm working on and trying to make the delivery a little smoother and with more concentration on timing. Hows it going for you?
