Hi Gang, I bought a Deering Goodtime in January and a Sierra in March. I have recently been sitting down with people who can play a guitar and they strum the chords for tunes [from the Davis/Bay book] while I roll. It is an amazing way to make progress, and great fun! I find myself looking forward to each time I can do this.

	83340 says: 5/17/2015 7:47:21 AM Hello Tom and Spanky: First Tom, you cannot go wrong with at GT. It is a perfect beginning banjo and one you will keep forever to have one that is easy to transport and durable and just fun to play. Spanky: my transition was based on the sheer enjoyment and fun of learning. I am 54 and I did not want to spend ten years thinking about buying a better banjo. It is like going from a golf cart to a nice new Subaru: the Sierra plays incredibly well and is a joy to look at and touch and hear. I bought it new from Dusty Strings in Seattle, they shipped it to Idaho which saved me a great deal in state sales tax 9% I think! I realize a new Sierra is an investment but I live in an area where people spend $4,000 on fishing poles and $7,000 on mountain bikes. For the enjoyment that I have gained and will gain from the Sierra it is a great investment. Happy playing! Adam
	Glenn K says: 6/8/2015 1:42:07 PM Tom I've got a deering goodtime II special that I bought for a carry around banjo and I love it as much as my RK35. I especially love the neck on it. It's more of a guitar style neck than the RK, which still messes with me after three years. The goodtime doesn't have the sound of the RK, but is a fun banjo. You can't go wrong with it, in my opinion. Just my two cents worth.

	TKarrow says: 1/9/2016 10:08:55 PM I was in San Diego in December just a few blocks from the Deering factory so I took their tour.. It was interesting but I think I'd buy a cheap Chinese made banjo before I'd buy a goodtime banjo.. There's no separate fretboard, no truss rod, the peghead is attached via a finger joint.. Well, I build my own banjos so I guess I'm sort of a snob but it seems to me the goodtime is overpriced for what it is..
