G'day from Adelaide

From Stardust0262 on 1/31/2015 2:59:30 AM

I cant tell you how rapt I was to find this group.  So nice to be able to say G'day and hold a banjo.  I'm a solitary picker learning since Nov 14 with some online materials from Ross Nickerson and a Murphy's method DVD.  If anyone from down this way knows of learner's group, please give us a shout.

Cheers

Steve

Welcome to the group. Not sure about learner groups but at least there might be an instructor or two your way.

G'day Steve. I just did a member search, and it looks like there are 2 "active" BHO members in Adelaide. If they aren't playing the style you wish to learn, they may know someone in Adelaide who does.

Thanks for the responses. Paulf and Dingoman25
Nice to know there are other Aussie pickers around.
Cheers

Hi Steve,
I'm new to Adelaide and to the banjo. I haven't come across any groups or sessions yet. But I'll be happy to meet up and learn together.

John

Hi John, thanks for posting. Good to hear of another Banjo enthusiast in the area. My learning level is pretty much 1 step up from zero. I try to practice each day and seem to have the alternate thumb roll and forward reverse down ok, just need to work on speed. Doing some work on the basic D7 and C chords too.
What about yourself? where are at with your experience?

hiya Steve from a fellow Adeladian. The Adelaide Olde Time String Band meets 1st & 3rd sundays of the month at College Park Scout Hall at Joslin, 1-1.30pm start till 4.30. Any level of player can go there. I have been going since I started learning and just started out doing basic chords and once I was getting the hang of it can start doing some melodies. They have been great. All I recommend is taking a capo, but from there on in everyone else will help you with each tune. Hope you can join us. There are a few here on banjo hangout that go to this - Robmac, Tim in the Garden, Nelcebee, Old Man Emu, Stump Grump & a couple of others that I have gone blank on their user names at the moment. But lots of us around. The jam also has a facebook page, so google it.

Cheers Chris

ps. to above post. The jam wont be meeting in the first sunday of March, as the Francis Folk Festival is on - but every other session is a goer :) Cheers - Chris

Hi Chris, thanks so much for passing on the info, very much appreciated. I reckon I will probably make my way down in the next month or two, as I have been feeling just a bit lost on how to progress. Look forward to saying hello in person. Cheers Steve
