SW Coast Vicco

From bourkedave on 2/21/2011 4:51:26 AM

 Hi all,

Just joined BHO last week. I live down the Surf Coast in Vicco (Aireys Inlet). Are there any known clubs or groups in this area. I am a sort of novice in banjo, in that I do okay on my tenor uke and have tuned my first banjo, a four string tenor, to gCEA. Same as the uke. I've had the 'jo for .......ohhh ........ ahh .......  at least a week.

Thanks for the reply, Peter. I am the same, I surfed down this coast for years and then about twenty years ago I thought, why not save the fuel and just move here. Best thing I ever did. I'll keep the Footis scray gig in mind if I happen to be in Melbourne at the right time. What is the venue. A house, hall, or what?

The venue is an old renovated piggery on the banks of the maribinong river,it is run by the bluegrass and traditional country music society(btcmsa),all acoustic music is welcome, they have a chalk board concert, jam sesson and lessons are held there as well. Its a great night & a great place to meet other pickers.

I'd be marking it in the diary, Dave. It's the best resource you have that side of the black stump. It's the Footscray Arts Centre, 45 Moreland St. There are plenty of rooms and plenty of outdoors. There's both concert and jamming for audience or participation. There's both kinds of music, bluegrass AND traditional. And there'll be plenty of folks ready to help a beginner sort out the tailpiece from the peghead.

Thanks Lone. Gee you travel a long way to Maribynong. Hope those cyclones are leaving you and your banjo's alone.
I have discovered the Geelong Folk Music Club. I haven't been there yet, but I do plan to make it sooner or later. For everyone else's information. Geelong Folk music club meets at Irish Murphy's on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month.

Go to geelongfolkmusicclub.com/

Dave.

Actually, no, I haven't been to the piggery a lot for 10 years, but I was bred in Moonee Ponds. The cyclones haven't even scratched my banjos. The folk club sounds nice.
