Is this a conversion or an original 5 string?

From nykyly on 12/11/2012 4:15:35 PM

Pictures can be found at http://www.banjohangout.org/myhangout/photos.asp?id=37140&albumid=7455

I will take some more pictures with a more precise camera.

Thanks

seems to be a conversion/ marriage of 3 banjos - neck seems a Gretsch Ne plus Ultra, pot may a Gretsch too. the reso back seem to be not original

This seems to be the real deal! A 5-string B&D Silver Bell No. 6 Ne Plus Ultra - most likely manufactured around 1928.

I´ll wait for better pics before determining this definitively. Please do also tell the serial number - I´ll then include it in my database acoustudio.dk/BD_and_Bacon_database.html

I have uploaded some more pictures to the album. The serial number is 18899. The coordinator rod and pot both have this serial number. The tone ring does not appear to have any holes.

I finally took some higher quality pictures today and added them underneath my Bacon & Day Photos.

Nykolus,

Congratulations - what you have is a genuine, ultra-rare and very costly B&D Silver Bell No. 6 Ne Plus Ultra Regular Banjo from very early 1926. I´m going to include it in my database.

Regards

Polle

Nykolus,

As for value - depending on how much will have to be done in order bringing it back to original condition and optimal playability - I´ll for now estimate it´s value to 10-13,000 bucks.

Surprised?

LOL!

Polle,

Wow, well I am starting to look and the find pieces needed to get it back to original condition. It already has a great sound when playing it. Thank you for the information and please add it to your database.

B&D - Silver Bell - #6 Ne Plus Ultra - RB -serial #18899 - no holes - beveled - f holes

Nykolus,

Done!

Regarding the value - do take my estimate with a grain of salt - it could be much higher (not lower) - due to its extreme rareness.

LOL!

Polle
