Changed my Reso-Tone Resonator Banjo strings to mediums. Have always used lights before. Definitively like the .010 1st & 5th better than .009! My old fingertips have lost some toughness. Noticed I have become dependent on the electronic tuner. Reassuring to my old ears. Noticed Pete Seeger had one hanging on his lightweight long neck in latter days. Makes me feel better!

Trying Elixir Polywebs for longevity. Sound good as new strings always seem to. Took a set overnight. This little banjo never ceases to amaze me! Harmony hit a home run with these little gems.

A few days later : Can't believe the difference in my Reso-Tone with the new medium strings! After a few hours stretch they have stayed in tune! I had forgotten how good this "beginner" banjo is! I have fallen back in love!

notbob says: 2/18/2017 9:37:35 AM I read yer post cuz I need new strings on my super basic Reso-Tone 16. How are those medium's, now? I suspect you are correct about the Reso-Tones, as I've recently seen resonator R-T's going fer as little as $125. OTOH, old Harmony "bat-wing" basses (H22) are going fer ten times as as much. They were $99 in 1964. Go figure!
	giweb says: 2/18/2017 7:17:43 PM notbob, My 22-fret reso-tone has been on a stage stand by my recliner since the new strings went on. They need replacement now, but will put the same back on. Can't believe it has been 2 1/2 years. also had to put a drop of oil on 5th string tuner screw recently. That should have been a clue! I remember when these were in Sears-Roebuck stores in the early 1960's. There are plenty of them out there. Best kept secret in banjoland! Enjoy it! giweb
notbob says: 2/25/2017 8:26:54 AM Yikes! This is the string line-up currently on my Reso-Tone, string 1 thru string 5: 0.012, 0.011, 0.016, 0.018, 0.009. They are guitar strings, but my tailpiece will accept both acoustic guitar strings and loop-end banjo strings. I plan to install a set of D'Addario light (0.009) nickel banjo strings. If the light set of D'A strings work on my Reso-Tone, while still maintaining my R-T's awesome play-ability, I may buy some of those Elixir mediums.
notbob says: 3/1/2017 10:55:04 AM I'll go with the D'A's, fer now. 0.009 n' 18's I wanna put some Black Diamond N734L's on, first. 0.0095's to 0.018's. I like cuz they have "ball-end" strings. Loop-ends can be a pain, at least until I create a special tool! Then, the Elixirs. Hey! .....I'm not rich. 8\|
