Super new to my banjo

From NewToMyBanjo on 4/30/2017 8:32:51 PM

well i work full time i have a new family but i love my banjo, i have had it for a few short months but hardly have any time for it, i really want to get into playing because when i hear a banjo play my heart melts, so i am determined to make time everyday to improve my banjo playing self, any suggestions on what the best cords to learn first? or even the most comfortable way to hold your banjo because i can;t seem to find a comfortable way to hold mine.... any and all comments are welcome :)

Set aside 10 to 20 minutes and practice the G C D and F using: the "F" shape, the "D" shape and the "bar" shape, up the neck as well as down the neck. My two cents worth

G C D and D7 there is a lot of simple songs with those three tuning of open g you really can start with C and D7 for most songs since you are already in g! Learn a couple of songs to switch up on really if you can put 20min a day in you’ll see your self take off in sperts. I’m the same way with time I travel for work so I’m on the road a lot working 12 to 16 hrs a day not much left to play after, but that’s why a few easy songs so you see progress keeps you wanting to pick if it’s even for 10 min at a time. Another thing I do when I’m with the family watching tv at a commercial I follow a cord chart and practice all cord changes starting with cords that are in the songs I’m learning to see other ways to do it and learn how to change shape in time. Key is to challenge your self but don’t put yourself into frustration of course the more you pick the quicker the progression but we all can’t play for 4 or 5hrs a day take it slow if that’s what you got to do but keep it fun progression will come
