CLICK ON EACH IMAGE IN THE COLLECTION FOLDERS FOR DETAILS ON APPLICATION PROCESS. If you have any decorated banjo images you would like to include in the Group's collection folders, please notify the Group Homepage Administrator, and provide the following information:

Type of Media Used: (ink/acrylic/oil/marker pen/vinyl sticker, etc.)
Any Finish placed Over the Image? (N, or Y-what type?)
Type of Head: (Fiberskin, Remo, natural hide, etc.)
Image on Top of Head or Beneath?
Technique Used: (Hand drawn, air brush, machine app, etc.)
Any effect on sound quality? (N, or Y - explain)
Lessons Learned - If any.
Any other background info regarding the decoration that would be helpful to other members.

I will upload the images into the Group folders.

All photos must be in JPEG format, and less than 5MB in size. Try to make file size small for uploading. Please only forward photos which 1) you own the copyrights to, or 2) which are non-copyrighted, per the BHO Copyright Policy.

	OldTimeGal says: 5/13/2012 10:11:16 PM Yes, check out randyz714's photos, who did one using watered down acrylics. Folks have used all sorts of techniques from sharpie pens, acrylic, oil, ink, and machine-painted vinyl...placed on underside of head or on top. Depending on type of head.
	Tom Hanway says: 5/21/2012 10:03:45 PM I thought up the name and co-designed the Stelling "SwallowTail" with Geoff Stelling in 1997 (manufactured in 1998). My wife Denise, an Irish folk artist, will be painting a swallow in flight, loosely based on the original SwallowTail design, on a medium Remo head, and we're discussing media, possibly acrylic. Denise did the front cover for my recent Mel Bay ... Best-Loved Jigs and Reels book. We're looking for tips, especially to get a painting that doesn't melt or scratch too easily, and doesn't dull down the tone too much. Work in progress, haha. Thanks for this Group. My inks did not dull down the tone, but they do wear off where I place my stabilizing finger - kind of leaves a nice smoking kinda trail... but I didn't put a finish over the ink. Acrylics would need to be thin, and my experience with acrylics long term is that the paint does tend to flake off, so a finish over it would be needed. Remo's R&D Department in 2006 recommended using a polyester silkscreening ink for painting a Fiberskyn 3 head. You might want to try instead using Sakura Permapaque Marker Pens, apparently they work quite well.
