After the difficulties I had with the previos head i got a used head from the Folk Shop for free. It had split on the edge from over tightening....so I used epoxy and some thin strips of nylon and repaired those Which worked really well.
I was in a real hurry, or else I would have waited for a better head.
I spray painted the head white, then cut out letters out of card stock and used a glue stick to affix them to the head. It has white letters against either a blue or red background. So I had to gluestick some more cardstock over the part I wanted blue, while I did the red.....
I had some of the red paint bleeding under the letters, and very little under the blue. I think that is because the red was cheap spray paint, while the blue was Krylon.
I will do another when I get another head and take more time so the results are better.
Someone asked how it affected the tone. I would guess there are about 3 - 4 layers of paint, so it is pretty thick.
The tone is wonderful, I think. I play an old fashioned up picking style, so I want a mellower tone. It is hard to describe the tone as it is deep and rich without diminishing the volume. There aren't any harsh overtones. I have nygut strings on it.
