Howdy folks. I've got a friend doing some doodling on one of my Deering open backs, and had a question. She's unsure on what medium she is going to use, but as with any kind of ink or paint, hand oils will eventually wear away at the image. She is wondering about the effect an acrylic spray or polyurethane spray would have on the sound. While she may not be, I am aware that there will be a natural amount of wear on the art just from playing. I'm sure the general consensus will be "don't bother with a finish", but, if a finish were to be used, would there be a noticeable change in sound, and would an acrylic or polyurethane spray be preferable? Thanks a ton for the help, and don't hesitate to ask any additional questions you may have.

	Paul R says: 7/9/2015 7:24:08 AM I'm wondering what effect certain substances would have on a plastic banjo head. I doubt that acrylic would affect it, plus, it has a certain amount of stretch, which would make sense with the tightening and loosening. I'd go with your presumed consensus - don't bother. If there's going to be wear, it will happen with or without a fixatif.
	Kit Cloud says: 8/1/2015 9:39:45 AM You could try using a UV fixitive like this one. dickblick.com/products/krylon-...nt-clear/ It may end up cracking a bit after a time and tightening the head more but shouldn't be a major problem if you apply just a light coat. I've never tried it on a skin but I have a friend that put a light coat on a drum stencil and it hasn't been a problem on that.
