I am trying to get a better/brighter sound. Started playing a ukulele about two years ago using my thumb/down, index finger/up....but this is too soft/dull sounding for my banjo uke.

Any tips? Don't want to use a pick....

	LizWil says: 2/1/2015 6:06:23 PM Hi Don - I'm new to the banjo uke so take this with a grain of salt. I attended a class in George Formby strumming given by Ralph Shaw (gooles him - he's got books, a blog, you tube videos). He taught that the basic strum - down, up - is played with the side of the index finger and that the thumb is only used on the split strum (splits the down-up, making a triplet). My Le Domino banjo uke is plenty loud and bright played this way, at least to my ears. HTH
