Hello all! I have two banjo's both are used for 3 finger picking . One has a metal rim and sounds stark and piercing and the other has a maple rim and sounds sweeter- Both have resonators. I like picking but would like to learn clawhammer! Would I need to put different guage/type of strings on either of these banjo's and would I need to a just the action of the instrument! good advice welcome please Regards Gary :-)

	kevinjudd says: 11/10/2014 1:08:57 PM dulcimer, You can get started with those string and setup. Any changes will be to personal taste. I've never heard of a standard CH setup for steel strings different from Scruggs style. I'm playing an open-back that has light guage strings and setup that would be fine for Scruggs style picking. The conventional wisdom is begin playing with what you have and adjust to taste based on your personal experience.

	BPete says: 2/9/2015 12:06:53 AM I agree with Kevin - only thing to add is best to avoid a wound 3rd string (G). Not sure about your other style but I've found there's lots of 'slides' on this string in CH and when its a wound one it doesn't help your finger! Or sound right!
