Anxiously waiting for my Custom Salty Dog...

From TNBanjoGirl on 6/14/2012 8:30:54 PM

Well I ordered a Bishline customized Salty Dog about 3 weeks ago...no pics yet but anxious to receive this banjo.  (I am currently still playing a Washburn beginner's banjo so this is a HUGE upgrade for me!)

I can't wait for you to start getting pictures. It's such a great build up to when you finally get your banjo!

OK, so I just received my first build pics today from Bishline. I posted them on my home page. Radiused fingerboard with a short-scale neck, basically the Salty Dog. The neck inlay is so cool with dog bones and paw prints!

That's a start! I'll see it tomorrow evening when I go in for my lesson!

Saw the inlays on the fretboard yesterday evening. I know Valerie (piscesgrrl) likes the bones, but I'm partial to the paw prints!!

Hey thanks Terry. I initially loved the bones inlay when I first saw a Salty Dog but then I happened to see one that they had made with pawprints too and I liked them both so I had them add both to the inlay pattern. I think the 2 of them together are a great combination. You are lucky to live so close to Rob (I think I'd be checking on my build all the time!). But I can't complain - only 15 minutes from Nashville here with lots of opportunities for jamming, etc. (and great instructors here too). Thanks for the update.

You're welcome! Rob is a great guy but, when he was building my banjo I think there were times when he hoped I would just go away! I know how excited and anxious you must be. It's gonna be a terrific banjo!! If you're that close to Nashville, I suspect there are lots of opportunities to see bluegrass bands perform, too. But, hey - I do get to hear and see Rob play every week!!

Hey, Sheri....I just came from my lesson where I also got to see pieces of your banjo! I say pieces because I got to see the neck with all the inlays put up, and I got to see the pot assembly, but the resonator was in the drying room. I didn't get to exam anything closely because Rob said he preferred I keep my ten thumbs off his masterpiece. That sorta hurt but I'm ok, now!! (Ok, I'm just kiddin' about that part.) Anyway, it looks great! Shouldn't be long, now!! I can't wait to hear it!

Oh, cool! Thanks for the update. I haven't seen any pics yet of the pot assembly or resonator. I have only seen the rough neck, fretboard (without any inlays) & a pic of machining the MOP inlays. I appreciate the updates from your weekly lesson (even if Rob didn't let you get a close 'examination' of the pieces). Hee! Hee!

You're welcome! I would have taken my camera and gotten some pics but I would have needed a zoom lens to shoot past that ten foot pole Rob keeps sticking in my chest anytime I get around his banjos! I'm usually not allowed close to anything in the shop!

I also saw You neck Monday afternoon. I like it. Makes Me want paw prints on My Salty Dog!

Well, thank you! I just received more build pics yesterday and the inlays are in the neck now (but you probably already knew that). I really like the pawprints and dogbones - they go good together. It looks great so far. Can't wait to receive the finished banjo...it's been 6 weeks...
