Here's my first bluegrass gospel song. I'd be interested in hearing how any of you would sing and play it. I've got a version I'm playing and singing but I'd like to hear it done by anyone else so inclined with a greater gift and abilities. Thank you very much.

PUT THAT SHOVEL DOWN

I (G) dug a deep hole, I (C) built a wall up (G) high.

I crawled down in that hole and (A) curled up to (D) die.

I (G) couldn't live today for (C) living in the past.

A (G) life not worth living - a (D) life that couldn't last.

Down for the count. The walls were closing in.

The law knew where I was - in trouble again.

Then God put a message in my head so thick.

The blessed saviour showed me he can heal the sick.

Put your trust in Jesus and (A) put that shovel (D) down.

(G) Pray to the Lord and (C) make a joyful (G) sound.

Now I open up the book and pray every day,

Thy will be done my Lord - come what may.

I have a higher power I have come to understand.

When I look I see those other footprints in the sand.

My ego has to go. My pride I have to lose.

Being grateful and humble will take away the blues.

The world looks so much better with fear and anger gone.

God is my king and I am his pawn.

Last night we played it at the weekly jam at Krumbly Burger in Troy, MO. Here's the progression we are using at the moment: (REF) (G) Put that shovel down boy - (C) Put that shovel (G) down.
