Hello Folks,

I am going to learn Gospel a 5 string open back. I have my choice of tone rings, so I was wanting to know if any particular one is better suited. I once read that you need good sustain for gospel, so that would be the tubaphone. I'm getting one of Rickard's tone rings, and considered the Whyte Ladie, too. Any help would be appreciated.

	Scott Barnbilly56 says: 1/16/2014 4:47:24 PM I have a white ladye gold tone open back and kind of bright sounding and did several things to tone it down so if I could have got a deeper bass tone type ring that would have been better . I toned mine down with fyberskin head , heavy strings ,small foam pad between tension bar and head and a big 3/4 inch thick foam pad that covers open back side and put a slit part way thru foam so it wraps against tension bar. This helped quiet it down and added to deeper tone . That's my story . Have fun and enjoy . Scott

I find the brighter tone of the ring better for fitting in with guitar and accordian or organ and violin, which is the line up, and the gentler ring-less tone better for or solo playing. The one without tone ring hss a resonator but sounds better without picks. The other better without.
