Hello Ladies

From KrissyJean on 12/3/2011 12:46:58 PM

I am Glad someone told me where the ladies were gathering. I looked for a female only group and could not find one so I started a group and then was told where to locate you' all. I am a beginner banjo player 31 years old with two kids and a husband I run a small off the grid ranch and work with local rescue animal groups in my spare time. (Wish I had more of that). I have always wanted to play the banjo but I never had the time. I finally decide that life was passing me by so I jumped on the banjo wagon and have not looked back since. I look forward to hearing from all you lovely ladies and learning from from. Thanks

Good for you! Learning at 31 years old is a good time as any to start. When you're my age you'll have 26 years of practice and I'm still learning and having fun with it every day! Sounds like you have an interesting and full life, too. It's great to connect some of the music with your lifestyle--songs about animals, songs for kids, cowboy songs......I do it in my first grade class and at community events if given the opportunity. Again, I say: Good for you! Happy New Year and happy picking,
Janet

Hi KrissyJean - it's cool to another off-grid woman banjo player.
I live off-grid and am learning to play the banjo in Ireland so we have a few things in common.
How long are you playing and are you picking or clawhammering?
Also are you wind, pv or hydro powered?
I live with pv and a home-made wind turbine. My husband and I teach other people to build their own wind turbines so as you might guess, we meet lots of unconventional, lovely people.
And I am trying to learn clawhammer, I tried picking for a while and have a few pieces that I still play with to keep my hand in, so to speak. Still very much a beginner :)
